Role Overview

A senior technical architecture role focused on designing, implementing, and assuring Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity solutions across complex enterprise environments. The position requires a seasoned professional with deep operational resilience expertise, capable of translating business requirements into robust recovery strategies and leading DR exercises and failover testing activities. The role sits within a highly regulated environment and involves collaborative development of DR runbooks alongside other Technical Architects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity solutions across complex hybrid and cloud enterprise environments, aligned to business requirements, RTOs, and RPOs.
  • Develop, maintain, and test recovery runbooks for business-critical services, ensuring they are accurate, actionable, and fit for purpose.
  • Conduct and lead DR exercises, failover testing, and recovery assurance activities, ensuring recoverability of critical systems and services.
  • Perform Business Impact Analysis (BIA) processes, translating outputs into recovery strategies and resilience requirements across the technology estate.
  • Collaborate with other Technical Architects to complete DR runbooks and governance deliverables, ensuring alignment across resilience, infrastructure, and security functions.

Top 5 Skills

  • DR & Business Continuity expertise - 10+ years in technical architecture, infrastructure, or operational resilience, with proven experience designing and implementing DR and BC solutions in complex enterprise environments.
  • Recovery runbook development - Demonstrable experience developing, testing, and maintaining recovery runbooks for business-critical services, ideally within a team of Technical Architects.
  • Hybrid & cloud recovery architecture - Strong knowledge of hybrid infrastructure, cloud recovery patterns, backup technologies, and replication solutions across enterprise-scale environments.
  • Resilience frameworks & standards - Strong working knowledge of ISO 22301, ISO 27001, ISO 27031, and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, with experience applying these within CNI, utilities, energy, nuclear, or defence environments.
  • DR testing & assurance governance - Proven ability to plan and execute DR exercises, failover testing, and recovery assurance activities, with experience translating BIA outputs into actionable recovery strategies, RTOs, and RPOs.

This role requires an active SC Clearance.

Contract Details:

  • Rate: £550 per day Inside IR35
  • Location: Remote (Occasional On Site Travel to Gloucester)
  • Duration: Until the end of the year (Chance of Extension)
