Network & Telecoms Engineer
Job summary
Join us as a Network & Telecoms Engineer and play a key role in keeping our digital infrastructure running smoothly across all Trust sites. In this hands-on, customer-facing role, you will:
- Maintain and develop our network and telecoms systems to meet the evolving needs of staff, patients, and visitors.
- Lead technical solutions--identify, recommend, and implement cost-effective technologies that drive innovation.
- Act as the technical lead on BAU and project tasks, collaborating with colleagues to troubleshoot complex issues and deliver multi-disciplinary projects.
- Engage with stakeholders via phone, email, and face-to-face, always delivering a professional, high-quality service.
- Participate in the 24/7 on-call rota and carry out planned maintenance outside core hours, including evenings and weekends.
Main duties of the job
- Implement and maintain the Trust's network and telecoms infrastructure to ensure reliable digital services for staff, patients, and visitors, including:
- Wired and wireless networks
- External connectivity (WAN, internet, remote access, VPN)
- Firewalls
- On-premise and off-premise network and telecoms systems
- Telecoms solutions, including Mitel IP telephony
- Diagnose and resolve faults by completing assigned Service Desk tickets within SLA, keeping customers informed and escalating where necessary.
- Deliver assigned project tasks on time, providing regular updates to stakeholders and escalating risks promptly.
- Provide on-site support across all Trust locations for BAU activities, ticket resolution, and project delivery.
- Manage system updates and upgrades with minimal disruption to live services.
- Create and maintain accurate documentation for all network and telecoms systems

Training & Qualifications
- Educated to degree level or equivalent knowledge and skills gained through a combination of alternative study and employment.
- Evidence of continuing professional development pertaining to this post.
- Vendor certification relating to network and/or telecoms.
- ITIL Practitioner Qualification
- PRINCE2 Certification
Experience & Knowledge
- Extensive IT experience, focussing on digital infrastructure, gained within an enterprise environment.
- Evidence of delivering digital solutions across multiple disciplines.
- Knowledge of IT "best practice" standards, procedures, policies, and protocols.
- Detailed specialist knowledge and expertise of at least two of the key areas: LAN, Wireless, Firewalls, IP Telephony
- Knowledge and experience of working with digital infrastructure in a healthcare environment.
- Thorough understanding of IT Security.
- Able to demonstrate knowledge of the following: Check Point firewalls. Extreme switches and wireless, Network Access Control, Remote access & VPN solutions, Web gateway solutions, Mitel IP Telephony
Skills & Ability
- Ability to understand, interpret and clearly communicate complex IT functionality issues or technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels.
- Able to plan and prioritise work.
- Able to analyse, investigate and resolve complex IT faults in a timely manner, whilst working under pressure.
- Able to fit and rack network equipment.
- Able to demonstrate Project Management experience.
- Able to demonstrate Change Management experience.
Other Specific Requirements
- Driver with Full licence to enable working between sites.
- Able to meet requirement to participate in the team's on-call rota, providing 24/7 support.
- Flexible approach to working hours to meet our requirement to provide on-site cover during core hours between 08:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday.
- Willing to work outside of core hours (evenings, early mornings, weekends) as required to complete planned maintenance activities.
