IT/Data Lead - NHS GP Surgery

The IT & Data Lead will provide strategic and operational leadership for information technology, digital systems, data management and information governance within the Practice.

The postholder will ensure that the Practice's IT infrastructure, clinical systems and data processes are secure, reliable, effective and aligned with NHS requirements.

The role will support the Practice in making effective use of data to improve patient care, operational performance, workforce planning and service delivery.

Main duties of the job

  • Act as the Practice's lead for day-to-day IT systems and digital technology.
  • Monitor IT-related incidents and identify recurring issues and opportunities for improvement.
  • Helps to create new templates/ Policies and Procedures
  • Support users with system-related queries and provide training where appropriate.
  • Maintain appropriate user access, permissions and role profiles.
  • Ensure access is promptly amended or removed when staff join, change roles or leave the Practice.
  • Promote effective and safe use of clinical systems across the Practice.
  • Work with the Practice Manager and relevant leads to maintain appropriate information governance policies and procedures.
  • Ensure staff understand their responsibilities regarding confidentiality, information security and appropriate use of Practice systems
  • Identify opportunities to improve Practice efficiency and patient services through technology.
  • Assist with the development of online patient services, digital communications and appropriate use of automation.
  • Consider accessibility and the needs of patients who may experience digital exclusion.
  • Provide first-line guidance to staff on IT, data and clinical-system issues.
  • Develop and deliver training and guidance for staff where required.
  • Contribute to Practice meetings, audits and governance activities as required.
  • Assist with audits, searches and data extracts as required.

    Experience

    • Experience working with IT systems, data management or digital services.
    • Strong understanding of data quality and information management.
    • Good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and common workplace IT systems.
    • Experience producing reports, analysing data and presenting information clearly.
    • Understanding of confidentiality and the importance of protecting sensitive information.
    • Ability to work independently and take ownership of IT and data-related tasks.
    • Commitment to patient confidentiality and professional standards.
