Harmonic are delighted to be partnering with a rapidly scaling, deep-tech business based in Cambridge in their search for an experienced Interim Financial Controller on a 6-month contract.
The business has built significant momentum internationally with strong backing from leading investors and continues to grow both in scale and organisational complexity. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-performance environment and enjoys elevating financial reporting, commercial insight, and FP&A capability.
The Role
Reporting into the CFO, you will lead the finance function alongside a small team, taking ownership of the financial close cycle, driving consistency and control, and playing a key role in developing the business' planning and performance functions. You'll be hands-on across statutory and management reporting, year-end delivery, forecasting, and commercial partnering, while embedding scalable processes across the team
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the month-end and year-end close cycles, ensuring timely, accurate consolidation and insightful reporting.
- Drive delivery of monthly management accounts, analysing results and highlighting key trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Partner with the CFO to develop and strengthen FP&A capability, including budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning.
- Provide clear, value-adding financial insights to senior leadership, translating performance data into actionable recommendations.
- Ensure robust financial controls and governance, enhancing consistency and reliability across the finance function.
- Oversee preparation of statutory accounts, audit support, and regulatory compliance as required.
- Support the development of standardised reporting packs, dashboards, and processes that scale with the business.
- Act as a commercial partner to operational leaders, supporting decision-making across the organisation.
- Mentor and develop a small finance team, helping to embed best practice and improve technical capability.
What We Need to See (Essential)
- A fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CI MA/CA or equivalent) with strong technical accounting experience.
- Demonstrable experience leading month-end, year-end and management reporting in a complex environment.
- Experience building or improving planning, budgeting and forecasting processes and insight.
- Confident communicator with the ability to influence across functions and senior stakeholders.
- Experience working in fast-growing, high-growth or technology-led start-ups and scale-ups.
Contract Length: 6 Months (Potential for temp-to-perm)
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Cambridge (3 days in the office)
Day Rate: £400-500
