Data Engineer

Data Engineer

Location: UK Remote

Salary: £65,000 - £70,000

This is an opportunity to be the first Data Engineer in a newly evolving data function, joining a high-growth, VC-backed digital platform at a pivotal point in its data transformation. You will take ownership of a modern cloud-based data stack and play a central role in turning fragmented data into clear, trusted insight that supports commercial decision-making.

The Company

They are a fast-growing online marketplace business operating in the education space, connecting customers and independent service providers through a two-sided platform. With rapid growth and increasing data complexity, the business is investing heavily in its data capability to better understand customer acquisition, user journeys, and overall performance. The data function is still maturing, offering a rare chance to shape foundations rather than inherit rigid processes.

The Role

You will take ownership of the end-to-end data platform, enhancing it in line with a recent architecture review while building and maintaining reliable ELT pipelines in a cloud data warehouse. The role involves designing clean, analytics-ready data models that enable reporting, self-serve insights, and strategic decision-making.

Working closely with analytics and commercial teams, you'll translate business needs into scalable data solutions, improve data quality and governance, and ensure a single trusted view of performance, all supported by experienced DevOps and engineering teams.

Your Skills and Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience as a Data Engineer working with modern cloud data platforms, ideally within GCP.
  • Proven capability in data modelling and transformation using tools such as dbt.
  • Experience building and maintaining production data pipelines using tools like Fivetran or similar.
  • Confidence working with infrastructure as code, particularly Terraform.
  • Comfortable operating in less structured, fast-growing environments and taking ownership.
  • Able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What They Offer

  • Fully remote working across the UK, with infrequent travel to the North of England, expenses covered.
  • The chance to shape a data platform from the ground up and have clear visibility and impact across the business.
  • Long-term progression as the data team continues to grow and mature.
