Data Governance Manager - Hybrid - London £70,000 - £75,000 Company

We're working with a well-established UK insurer operating in a specialist, data-led part of the market. The business combines modern technology with human expertise to support customers whose needs fall outside traditional insurance models.

You'll be joining a collaborative, growing organisation that has been externally recognised as a great place to work. Hybrid working is embedded, with flexibility around hours and location and a requirement to attend the South West London office at least one day per week.

Responsibilities

This role leads the design and delivery of a modern data governance framework, ensuring data is trusted, compliant, and fit for analytics, ML, and AI use cases.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Owning and implementing a scalable, cloud-based data governance strategy

  • Defining data domains, ownership, and stewardship with Data Engineering and business teams

  • Establishing pragmatic governance policies, standards, and controls

  • Partnering with project owners to identify and resolve governance risks

  • Championing responsible data access and improving data literacy across the organisation

  • Setting standards for data quality, lineage, metadata, and documentation

  • Implementing IAM access controls and supporting DPIAs and LIAs

Requirements

Essential:

  • Strong experience designing and implementing modern data governance frameworks

  • Knowledge of metadata-driven and AI-aware governance best practice

  • Ability to work across technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Hands-on experience with data cataloguing, quality, lineage, and governance tooling

  • Experience with IAM access controls, DPIAs, and LIAs

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Desirable:

  • Experience with GCP, Dataplex, BigQuery, and/or dbt

  • Background in insurance or regulated environments

  • Experience delivering data literacy or stewardship initiatives
