Engineering Manager

Our client is a global aviation and logistics organisation, operating at significant scale with hundreds of aircraft and thousands of flights worldwide. They support large-scale retail and commercial cargo movements across international supply chains and are undergoing a major data platform transformation to support future growth.

This is a senior, strategic Lead Data Engineering Manager role focused on stabilising BAU operations and overseeing a large data warehouse migration.

The organisation is currently migrating from a legacy data platform to Snowflake, with delivery supported by a major systems integrator. This role sits on the client side and acts as the senior data engineering authority, ensuring designs are sound, pipelines are built correctly, and the migration progresses smoothly without disrupting day-to-day operations.

This is predominantly a leadership and strategy role, not a pure hands-on engineering position. You will provide technical oversight, architectural guidance, and strong stakeholder management, with light hands-on involvement where required.

• Lead and oversee the migration from legacy data platforms to Snowflake

• Act as the senior data engineering point of contact across the programme

• Manage and guide a team of external contractors alongside a permanent engineer

• Ensure BAU data processes remain stable throughout the transition

• Review and validate data architecture, pipeline designs, and migration approaches

• Ensure migration pipelines are robust, scalable, and fit for long-term use

• Work closely with the Head of Data to define engineering strategy and delivery priorities

• Drive a solution-focused mindset from delivery partners

• Ensure new data products and use cases are developed in a scalable and sustainable way

• Communicate complex technical decisions clearly to non-technical stakeholders

Strong experience required:

• Snowflake

• Airflow

• dbt

Nice to have:

• AWS (lower priority)

• Senior or Lead Data Engineer who has progressed into a management / technical leadership role

• Strong data architecture and solution design experience

• Experience overseeing migrations rather than purely building pipelines

• Comfortable working with system integrators and third-party delivery teams

• Proven ability to work with senior stakeholders and non-technical audiences

• Around 70% strategic, oversight, and delivery leadership

• Around 25-30% collaboration on engineering strategy and platform decisions

• Light hands-on involvement where required
