UX/UI Designer - Contract
UX/UI Designer Scientific Research Company £150-£200 per day (Outside IR35) Liverpool - can be remote
We're working with a leading scientific research organisation that has built a commercial software product used globally by shipping companies to access highly accurate tidal prediction data.
They're now looking for a freelance UX/UI Designer to enhance the user experience and visual design of their newly modernised, web-based platform. The product is already live and functionally sound - but the visual experience and usability need elevating to match the quality of the backend engineering.
Role & Responsibilities
- Taking an existing, functional MVP and reimagining the UX/UI in Figma or similar tools
- Enhancing data visualisation, ideally with experience in heat maps, tidal currents, or other geospatial interfaces
- Working closely with a Front-End Developer who will implement your designs in code
- Designing for a product that is highly technical, but already well-documented and structured - so no need to build from scratch
Skills & Experience
- Strong portfolio showcasing beautiful, usable web applications - ideally in data visualisation, mapping, or environmental science domains
- Experience with UX/UI design for geospatial data, heat maps, or real-time visualisation tools
- Confident using Figma or similar design systems to produce clean, developer-ready assets
- Able to work independently, making an impact quickly without the need for extensive onboarding
- Worked on visualisation tools like GeoJS, GEOgis, or any browser-based geospatial mapping solutions
