Lead AI Engineer

London. Up to £115,000 plus bonus

This is a high-impact Lead AI Engineer opportunity for someone who wants to move beyond experimentation and deliver AI that genuinely changes how a business operates. You will take ownership of real, production-grade GenAI systems, shaping both the technical direction and the commercial outcomes of AI at scale.

The Role

You will operate as a hands-on technical leader within a growing AI function, owning delivery from concept through to production.

• Own end-to-end design, architecture and delivery of AI solutions
• Build and deploy LLM-powered and agent-based systems into production
• Translate complex business challenges into scalable AI applications
• Make key decisions on models, tooling, infrastructure and system design
• Establish best practices across evaluation, monitoring and guardrails
• Lead build versus buy decisions and navigate technical trade-offs
• Work closely with engineering, security, data and business stakeholders
• Provide technical leadership across multiple AI initiatives

Your Skills and Experience

You will bring strong commercial experience delivering production AI solutions and the confidence to operate at Lead level.

• Proven experience delivering GenAI or LLM-based solutions into production
• Ownership of end-to-end AI system design and architecture
• Experience building agentic or multi-step AI systems
• Strong software engineering fundamentals across APIs, systems and cloud
• Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
• Experience influencing technical direction across multiple projects
• Strong stakeholder communication with both technical and non-technical teams

Desirable:

• Experience in regulated environments such as financial services
• Familiarity with MLOps or LLMOps practices
• Experience building reusable AI frameworks or platforms
• Exposure to AWS or similar cloud ecosystems
