2nd Line IT Support Engineer – Cyber Security Specialist

Are you an experienced IT Support Engineer looking to elevate your career in a collaborative, forward-thinking education environment? Our client – a respected college – is seeking a 2nd Line Engineer with strong cyber security expertise to join their dynamic IT Services Team.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality 2nd line support and troubleshooting across hardware, software, and desktop systems.
- Support and mentor 1st line engineers; escalate complex issues to 3rd line or third parties as needed.
- Contribute to the planning and development of IT systems and services.
- Maintain and update the IT ticketing system with accurate and timely information.
- Participate in college-wide IT projects and initiatives.
- Provide hands-on support for hardware repairs, software installs, and hardware refreshes.
- Represent the IT department at internal/external meetings and conferences.
Cyber Security Focus
- Act as the college’s Cyber Security Subject Matter Expert.
- Plan, implement, and manage security measures to safeguard college data, systems, and networks.
- Ensure all devices are fully patched and updated, including software and firmware (via N-Central).
- Maintain the Cyber Security Calendar and Risk Register.
- Administer security tools including Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Endpoint Protection, and Microsoft Secure Score.
- Lead on firewall management, vulnerability scanning, and Data Loss Protection.
- Manage phishing simulation training and ensure staff are educated in cyber security best practices.
- Stay updated through participation in the JISC Cyber Security Community, webinars, and industry resources.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in a 2nd line IT support role, ideally within an educational or complex environment.
- Strong understanding of cyber security principles, tools, and best practices.
- Experience with M365 security features, patch management, and vulnerability remediation.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to work collaboratively across IT teams and communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders.
- Passion for continuous learning and knowledge-sharing within the team.
Desirable Skills & Tools
- Familiarity with N-Central or similar patching tools
- Microsoft Defender & Secure Score
- Endpoint protection and firewall rule management
- Experience with phishing simulation platforms and user training tools
- Exposure to Change Advisory Boards (CAB) or ITIL environments
