Location: West Midlands (Hybrid)

Salary: £45,000 – £55,000 + excellent benefits

About the Role

We’re looking for a skilled Cloud & Infrastructure Engineer to join my clients IT Operations team in a hands-on, technically focused position. You’ll play a key role in designing, implementing, and supporting both cloud-based and on-premise infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on Microsoft Azure technologies.

Working closely with the Infrastructure Manager, you’ll operate at a senior level, helping to ensure systems are secure, reliable, and aligned with organisational objectives while also providing technical guidance across the team.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Act as a senior escalation point, delivering third-line support and assisting with complex technical solutions
  • Provide second-line support where needed across agreed services
  • Manage, maintain, and troubleshoot hybrid infrastructure environments

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Administration of Azure environments and tenant configurations
  • Managing identity platforms including Active Directory and Entra ID
  • Supporting enterprise applications, integrations, and authentication services
  • Overseeing directory synchronisation and Azure AD B2C
  • Implementing security controls such as MFA, conditional access, and identity governance
  • Managing privileged access and identity lifecycle processes
  • Monitoring systems, setting up alerts, and improving observability
  • Supporting server, storage, and core infrastructure platforms
  • Ensuring compliance with security standards and internal policies
  • Creating and maintaining clear technical documentation
  • Contributing to infrastructure projects from initial design through to delivery
  • Driving improvements across IT operational processes
  • Deploying and managing workloads within Azure
  • Supporting Microsoft 365 and other SaaS platforms
  • Working with architecture and delivery teams to ensure solutions meet operational and cloud best practice standards
  • Participating in governance, review sessions, and service lifecycle activities
  • Supporting resilience testing, backups, and disaster recovery planning

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Strong problem-solving ability with a logical, analytical mindset
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams
  • Solid experience working with Microsoft Azure services and integrations (e.g. identity, APIs, app services, SSO, Logic Apps)
  • Understanding of cloud design principles such as the Microsoft Well-Architected Framework
  • Experience with business continuity and disaster recovery, including Azure backup and recovery tools
  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting across Microsoft environments
  • Hands-on experience administering Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Exchange, Teams, etc.)
  • Relevant certifications in Azure or identity technologies, or equivalent practical experience

Desirable:

  • Experience in environments focused on continuous improvement or agile delivery
  • Knowledge of application deployment or packaging processes
  • Familiarity with virtualisation and physical infrastructure
  • Understanding of networking and security fundamentals
  • Exposure to Infrastructure as Code tools (ARM, Bicep, Terraform)
  • Awareness of cloud cost control and optimisation
  • Experience with Azure Virtual Desktop
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics 365
  • Experience managing databases (SQL Server, Azure SQL, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines
  • ITIL Foundation (or equivalent)
