A world-leading commodities trading firm is seeking a Lead Market Data Developer to head up its market data development function. This is a high-impact role focused on building and enhancing a mission-critical Data Management System (DMS) that underpins market data reliability for a major global oil trading division.

You will lead a team of market data developers, own full lifecycle delivery of market data solutions, and act as the subject matter expert for curve development across the commodities oil business.

This is a strategic contract position reporting directly to the Head of Market Data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a team of market data developers, driving a collaborative and high-performance culture.

  • Act as the SME for market data initiatives, particularly around commodity oil curve development.

  • Manage and align stakeholders on project goals, timelines, and outcomes.

  • Own end-to-end project delivery: requirements, design, development, and service deployment.

  • Build and enhance data parsers, ETL pipelines, and distribution tooling under a standardised data model.

  • Create, maintain, and remark complex commodity curves supporting trading, pricing, and risk.

  • Collaborate with vendors and internal technology teams to ensure seamless feed integration.

  • Provide second-line support for daily parsing, calculations, and curve-driven market data processes.

  • Partner with exchanges, PRAs, and external market data providers to ensure accurate and timely delivery.

Skills & Experience
  • Strong experience onboarding, processing, and distributing market data from multiple sources (API, file, scraping).

  • Proven track record building market data or data management system components.

  • Deep understanding of ETL/ELT workflows, data warehousing, and handling EOD/tick data.

  • Strong engineering discipline-clean, testable, standardised code.

  • Good knowledge of schema design and modern deployment/automation practices.

  • Familiarity with Zema, Docker, and containerised environments is advantageous.

  • Experience within commodities or financial-services trading technology teams is highly desirable.

Contract Details
  • £1,000 - £1,200 per day

  • Outside IR35

  • 3 days per week in London office
