Senior Software Engineer (Python, Go OR Java) – Agentic & AI Systems (IC Role)
Location - Manchester
Working Pattern - Hybrid (2 days per week in office)
Salary - £65,000-£95,000
We’re hiring Senior Software Engineers to join a new accelerator programme focused on building next‐generation, agentic systems. This is a greenfield engineering role, working differently from traditional enterprise delivery, closer to how modern AI‐native teams build.
These roles are hands‐on individual contributor positions (non‐managerial), working on cutting‐edge platforms that underpin AI agents, orchestration, and intelligent workflows.
What you’ll be working on
- Building agentic systems and core services that power AI‐driven platforms
- Designing and developing high‐performance APIs and API gateways
- Building scalable backend services that sit at the heart of intelligent workflows
- Working alongside UI engineers building micro‐frontends that consume LLM‐powered services
- Contributing to a fast‐moving engineering accelerator with modern tooling and practices
Core technical skills (backend‐heavy)
We’re skill‐led, not CV‐led. 5+ years is typical, but capability matters more than years.
Primary languages
- Python and/or Golang (strong preference)
- Java still valued for some teams
- Engineers who can work across Python, Go and Java are highly attractive
Backend & platform
- AWS‐based systems
- API design, API Gateway patterns
- Distributed systems and service‐to‐service architecture
- Building systems that support AI agents (state, orchestration, workflows)
AI exposure (this is a bonus)
- Experience building systems that consume LLMs is valuable
- Familiarity with tools like Claude / Codex is a plus
- We will consider strong engineers without direct AI experience if fundamentals are excellent
