Hatched Recruitment is currently recruiting on behalf of Belfast City Council for an experienced Information Governance Officer (Data Protection) to join the Legal and Civic Services - Records Management team on a temporary basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Information Governance, Data Protection, GDPR, or Compliance professional to support a busy public sector organisation and assist with maintaining compliance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Location: Donegall Square, Belfast
Start Date: 17 August 2026
Duration: 4 weeks (temporary assignment)
Hours: 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: £20.66 per hour PAYE
Working Pattern: Hybrid working available following initial training (3 days office based and 2 days from home)
Key Responsibilities:
- Support compliance with UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and wider information governance legislation.
- Provide advice and guidance to staff on data protection requirements and the handling of personal information.
- Assist with Subject Access Requests (SARs) and other information rights processes.
- Support the management of personal data registers and corporate information governance processes.
- Assist with the investigation and management of personal data breaches.
- Review and update policies, procedures, privacy notices, and guidance documentation.
- Support Freedom of Information (FOI), Environmental Information Regulations (EIR), and other information governance requests.
- Prepare reports, statistics, and compliance information for management.
- Keep up to date with changes in data protection legislation and best practice.
Essential Criteria:
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous experience within Information Governance, Data Protection, Records Management, Compliance, or a related role.
- Strong knowledge of UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
- Experience providing advice on data protection compliance, managing personal data, or developing policies and procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Experience handling sensitive and confidential information.
Desirable Criteria:
- Previous experience working within a public sector or local government environment.
- Data Protection Practitioner Certificate or equivalent qualification.
- Experience supporting FOI requests, Subject Access Requests, and information rights work.
