Multi-Skilled Maintenance Shift Engineer
Your new company
You will be joining a leading global manufacturing organisation at its established production facility in Hull. Operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the facility uses highly technical, temperature-controlled manufacturing processes. This creates an interesting and varied engineering environment with plenty of complex plant and equipment to learn.
Your new role
As a Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer with an electrical bias, you will provide maintenance support across a busy manufacturing facility. The role is approximately 70% electrical and 30% mechanical, working a five-team rotating shift pattern aligned with factory operations.
You will complete planned preventative and reactive maintenance, diagnose electrical and mechanical faults, and support the continued operation of the plant. During night shifts, you may work independently, so strong fault-finding and investigatory skills are essential. Where an immediate repair is not possible, you will be expected to diagnose the fault and develop a clear plan for resolving it.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Electrical and mechanical fault-finding
- Planned preventative and reactive maintenance
- Working with PLCs, HMIs, DCS and communication systems
- Instrument calibration and control valve maintenance
- Root cause analysis and detailed fault diagnosis
- Maintaining and refurbishing production equipment
- Following permit-to-work, LOTO and site safety procedures
- Supporting continuous improvement and plant efficiency initiatives
The position is based on a 38.4-hour working week using a modified DuPont shift system.
What you'll need to succeed
You will be an apprentice-trained, multi-skilled engineer with a strong electrical bias and practical mechanical engineering experience. You should hold a relevant City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 engineering qualification, alongside 17th or 18th Edition electrical certification. An HNC is also listed as essential for the position.
You will also need:
- Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Experience working with PLCs, HMIs, DCS or SCADA systems
- Familiarity with instrument calibration
- Practical mechanical maintenance capabilities
- The confidence to work independently during shift periods
- A strong understanding of health, safety and safe isolation procedures
- Good communication, planning and problem-solving skills
What you'll get in return
You will join a technically challenging, process-driven manufacturing environment where no two shifts are the same. You will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge of specialist production equipment, automated systems, instrumentation and complex manufacturing processes.
You will become part of an established engineering function, working alongside both electrical and mechanical engineers and receiving support from the wider on-call engineering team when required. The role offers the opportunity to take ownership of fault diagnosis, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and build valuable experience within a global manufacturing organisation.
