Data Business Analyst - Data Governance & Metadata Management
Duration: 3 months (+ extension)
Based: Leeds, West Yorkshire (3 days on site)
Rate: £negotiable
We are seeking a Data Business Analyst to support the design, delivery, and continual improvement of enterprise data governance and metadata management capabilities. This role would also suit a Data Manager or Global Data Librarian with strong experience in structuring, cataloguing, and governing data assets across complex organisations.
- Analyse business requirements and translate them into data governance, metadata, and data management solutions.
- Develop and maintain enterprise metadata frameworks, including data definitions, data lineage, data classification, and data catalogues.
- Support the creation and management of data dictionaries, glossaries, and taxonomies to improve data consistency and usability across the organisation.
- Work with stakeholders to identify and manage critical data assets, ensuring they are properly documented, classified, and governed.
- Implement and maintain data governance processes, including data ownership, stewardship, and quality controls.
- Conduct data quality and data risk assessments, identifying issues and supporting remediation plans.
- Collaborate with technical teams to ensure metadata is captured and integrated into tools such as data catalogues and governance platforms.
- Support regulatory and compliance requirements (e.g. GDPR), ensuring data is handled appropriately throughout its lifecycle.
- Facilitate workshops with business and technical teams to improve data understanding, standards, and governance adoption.
- Produce clear reporting and dashboards on data quality, governance maturity, and metadata coverage.
Key Skills & Experience
- Strong experience as a Data Business Analyst, Data Manager, or similar role.
- Proven experience with metadata management, data cataloguing, or data library functions.
- Experience implementing or supporting data governance frameworks (e.g. DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM).
- Understanding of data lineage, data classification, and data quality management.
- Ability to identify and manage critical data elements (CDEs).
- Experience working with data governance tools (e.g. Collibra, Alation, Informatica, Microsoft Purview or similar).
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, able to translate data concepts into business-friendly language.
- Experience in regulated environments is beneficial.
Desirable
- Background in information management, library science, or records management (for Global Librarian profile).
- Experience defining enterprise-wide data standards and taxonomies.
- Knowledge of data privacy and compliance frameworks.
