Electrical Design Engineer
Your new companyWe are recruiting on behalf of a well-established Building Services Consultancy based in Nottingham. The business delivers Mechanical and Electrical design solutions across a diverse range of sectors and has built a strong reputation for providing high-quality, technically robust engineering services. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join their collaborative multidisciplinary team.Your new roleAs an Electrical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the delivery of projects from initial feasibility and concept development through to detailed design and construction support (RIBA Stages 0-5). Working closely with Mechanical Engineers, Revit Technicians and Building Physics specialists, you will produce coordinated electrical designs across a varied portfolio of projects.This opportunity would also suit a qualified electrician who is looking to move off the tools and develop a long-term career in electrical building services design. Full training and support can be provided for the right individual.Key responsibilities will include:
- Producing detailed electrical building services designs and calculations.
- Undertaking site surveys, condition assessments and feasibility studies.
- Preparing specifications, reports and technical documentation.
- Applying for utility connections and liaising with relevant service providers.
- Reviewing subcontractor designs and technical submissions.
- Attending client, contractor and design team meetings.
- Carrying out site inspections and preparing associated reports.
- Supporting and mentoring junior engineers and apprentices.
- Assisting with project design strategies and technical solutions.
- Ensuring designs comply with current regulations, British Standards and industry best practice.
- Contributing to the successful delivery of projects whilst maintaining high technical and quality standards.
What you'll need to succeed
- Degree, HNC/HND, NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience producing electrical building services designs within a consultancy, contractor or building services environment, or practical experience as an Electrician looking to transition into a design-focused role.
- For electricians making the move into design, experience installing, testing, commissioning or maintaining electrical systems within commercial, industrial, healthcare, education or other building services environments.
- A strong understanding of electrical installations and current electrical regulations.
- Proficiency with industry-standard electrical design software, or the willingness and aptitude to develop these skills.
- Good understanding of current Building Regulations, British Standards and design guidance.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clients, contractors and colleagues.
- Professional membership or progress towards chartership would be advantageous but is not essential.
