Head of PMO

Your new role The Head of PMO is a senior leadership role responsible for the day-to-day PMO operations, providing leadership in programme/project delivery, governance, assurance, performance, risk, change, and benefits management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the delivery of a complex portfolio of programmes and projects, ensuring alignment to strategic objectives and achievement of measurable outcomes.
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Portfolio Management Office, driving consistency, structure, and effective delivery practices.
- Establish and maintain robust governance, assurance, and reporting frameworks to support informed decision-making at senior levels.
- Manage portfolio performance, including risk, change, and benefits realisation, ensuring delivery remains on track and value is maximised.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, acting as a senior point of contact and influencing across diverse partners.
- Provide visible leadership across teams and stakeholders, fostering a high-performing culture and supporting delivery through both direct and matrix management.
What you'll need to succeed
- Demonstrable track record of leading complex portfolios or programmes, ideally within multi-stakeholder or public sector environments.
- Strong knowledge of governance, assurance, risk, performance, financial and change management within a PMO or delivery function.
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to operate effectively at senior and political levels.
- Proven leadership capability, with experience developing high-performing teams and leading across matrix structures.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to interpret data and translate insight into informed decision-making.
- Sound understanding of economic development and funding environments, with a commitment to high standards of governance, accountability, and public service.
What you'll get in return You can expect a salary in the region of £68,762 to £72,055 (DoE), local gov pension scheme, up to 30 days annual leave (plus bank holidays) and flexible/hybrid working (2 days a week in the office).
