Senior DT Technician
Hays Education are proud to be working in partnership with a well-regarded secondary school to recruit a Senior Technology Technician for a permanent position starting in September. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced technician with a background in Design Technology, Food Technology or a related practical learning environment who is looking to take the next step in their career. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the delivery of an engaging and innovative Technology curriculum, leading the technician team and ensuring the department operates efficiently, safely and effectively.The school is also open to considering candidates seeking a part-time, 3-day-per-week position, making this a flexible opportunity for the right individual.Your new role Reporting directly to the Head of Technology Faculty, you will:
- Lead and organise the Technology Technician team across the faculty
- Ensure practical lessons are fully resourced, set up and ready for delivery
- Support teachers and students during practical activities and demonstrations
- Manage stock levels, ordering processes and departmental resources
- Maintain accurate inventories and expenditure records
- Support the planning and development of practical elements within the curriculum
- Act as a key point of contact for technology-related site and IT issues
- Oversee the maintenance, servicing and repair of specialist equipment
- Ensure workshops, prep rooms and storage areas remain organised, safe and fit for purpose
- Work closely with teaching staff to provide technical advice and support
Health & Safety Responsibilities A significant part of this role involves ensuring the highest standards of health and safety across the Technology faculty. Responsibilities include:
- Leading on risk assessments and safety procedures
- Managing the storage, handling and disposal of materials and equipment
- Ensuring compliance with CLEAPSS and/or COSHH regulations
- Supporting the review and implementation of departmental health and safety policies
- Maintaining appropriate records relating to equipment, chemicals and hazardous materials
What you'll need to succeed
- Previous experience working within a technology, food technology or practical learning environment
- Experience preparing equipment, materials and resources for lessons
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures relevant to workshops or practical learning spaces
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- The ability to prioritise workloads and work independently
- Strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to support both staff and students
- Good IT skills and administrative ability
Desirable experience includes:
- Previous experience within a secondary school setting
- Budget management and purchasing responsibilities
- Health and Safety qualifications or training
- Knowledge of CLEAPSS and COSHH guidance
- A relevant Technology or Food Technology qualification
