Your new role
As Senior Database Administrator, you'll play a pivotal role in the technology function, leading the design, optimisation, and scaling of the cloud-based data platform. You'll be responsible for both transactional and analytical workloads across Cloud SQL (MySQL) and BigQuery, ensuring performance, reliability, security, and cost-efficiency. This is a hands-on role where you'll manage high availability setups, performance tuning, disaster recovery planning, automation, and observability. You'll also mentor engineers, maintain documentation, and manage third-party relationships.
What you'll need to succeed
To thrive in this role, you'll need:
- Strong experience with Cloud SQL (MySQL) and BigQuery, including indexing, query plans, and schema design.
- Hands-on production experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Proficiency in Terraform, Git, Bash, and other scripting/IaC tools.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools like Cloud Monitoring or New Relic.
- Solid understanding of database security, IAM, encryption, and audit logging.
- Proven operational experience with high availability, backups, disaster recovery, and change management.
- Excellent documentation and stakeholder communication skills.
Bonus points for experience with Couchbase, Redis, Kubernetes, Airbyte, Laravel, and Agile methodologies. GCP certifications (Data Engineer or Cloud Architect) are also desirable.
