Systems Accountant (Maternity Cover)

Location: Potentially Fully Remote Contract: Fixed-term Maternity CoverHours: Full timeA District Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Systems Accountant to join our Finance, Revenues & Benefits Directorate on a fixed-term maternity leave contract. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled systems professional to play a key role in managing and developing our financial systems, supporting critical business functions across the Council.Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will be responsible for ensuring our Finance Management System (Integra/TechnologyOne) and Revenues & Benefits System (Northgate) are accurate, compliant and fully optimised to support strategic decision-making.

Key ResponsibilitiesAs Systems Accountant, you will:

  • Lead the management of data and reporting within the Integra/TechnologyOne Finance Management System.
  • Oversee data integrity and reporting within the Northgate Revenues & Benefits system.
  • Manage periodic system updates, including reviewing release notes, testing new functionality and supporting upgrades, migrations and new modules.
  • Develop high-quality reports using Crystal Reports and Business Objects, supporting managers with accurate data insights.
  • Act as the first point of contact for system queries, liaising with internal ICT, Northgate and Integra helpdesks as required.
  • Maintain user access, security profiles, and application permissions.
  • Co-ordinate the annual disaster recovery process and ensure resilience testing is completed.
  • Identify opportunities for system improvements, automation and process efficiencies.
  • Ensure compliance with CIPFA, IFRS, GDPR and other relevant regulations.
  • Support internal and external audit requirements with accurate system data and documentation.
  • Produce and maintain user guides, procedures and training materials.
  • Provide supervision and support to the Finance Systems Officer.

About YouWe're looking for someone who brings both technical capability and strong communication skills. You will ideally have:Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong understanding of local government finance and working practices.
  • Expertise in Crystal Reports and/or Business Objects.
  • Solid understanding of financial processes and controls.
  • Knowledge of Revenues & Benefits processes (Council Tax, Business Rates, Housing Benefits).
  • High-level Excel skills and experience with complex financial databases.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical users.
  • Strong customer focus with the ability to support users at all levels, including elected members.
  • Excellent attention to detail, integrity and confidentiality.
  • Technical aptitude and understanding of system interoperability across key council applications.

Experience

  • Experience working with complex financial systems (Integra or Northgate desirable).
  • Extensive experience in database management and report development.
  • Background working in a financial environment.

Qualifications

  • Part-qualified accountant (or equivalent) recognised by UK accountancy bodies.
