Configuration and Asset Analyst

Reporting to: Technical Change Management Manager

Location: UK, Germany

Role Objectives :

The Configuration & Asset Analyst is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and governance of configuration and asset data to support effective Change Management and overall service stability.

The role works closely with the Technical Change Manager and the key Managed Service Providers to provide reliable configuration insights, impact assessments, and asset lifecycle transparency, oversee the configuration process and accuracy of the CMDB to enable informed decision-making and risk-controlled changes.

Key Results / Areas

Core Responsibilities

Configuration Management (CMDB)

  • Working with external and internal teams, ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of the Configuration Management Database (CMDB).
  • Define, enforce, and monitor configuration management standards, policies, and data models.
  • Govern and track the accuracy of configuration items (CIs) to ensure they are correctly identified, classified, related, and baselined.
  • Perform regular audits and reconciliations of CMDB data against discovery tools and source systems, and drive improvement plans with the Managed Service Provider as required.

IT Asset Management

  • Support the management of the lifecycle of IT assets from procurement through deployment, maintenance, and retirement.
  • Ensure asset data accuracy for hardware, software, and cloud resources.
  • Support license compliance, usage optimization, and cost transparency initiatives.

Change Management Support

  • Provide configuration and asset impact analysis for proposed changes.
  • Support risk assessments and dependency analysis for standard, normal, and emergency changes.
  • Validate that changes are correctly reflected in the CMDB and asset records post-implementation.

Data Quality, Governance & Compliance

  • Define and track data quality KPIs for configuration and asset data.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing accurate configuration and asset information.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify gaps and improvement opportunities in configuration and asset management processes and drive improvement initiatives with the Managed Service Provider.
  • In conjunction with the Managed Service Provider, drive automation and integration initiatives to improve data accuracy and timeliness.
  • Contribute to service reliability, change success rate, and operational maturity .

Stakeholder & Communication Management

  • Act as a key interface between Change Management, Service Providers, and service owners.
  • Provide clear and reliable configuration and asset insights to support decision-making.
  • Educate stakeholders on configuration and asset management best practices.

Knowledge, qualifications, and experience

Required Skills & Experience

  • Experience in Configuration Management, IT Asset Management, or related IT service management roles.
  • Experience of working with Managed Service Providers and outsource delivery models.
  • Strong understanding of CMDB concepts, CI relationships, and dependency mapping.
  • Experience supporting Change Management processes and impact assessments.
  • High attention to detail and strong data analysis skills.
  • Ability to work across technical and non-technical teams.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Information Technology, Business Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • ITIL v4 certification (Configuration, Asset, or Change Management related) preferred.
  • Tool-specific certifications (e.g. ServiceNow CMDB / ITAM) are an advantage.

Situational Requirements

  • Comfortable travelling– a dispersed geographic spread of countries.
  • Able to work across multiple time zones.
