Data Center Engineer

Join a leading independent technology and services provider as a Technical Operative 2 - Datacentre Engineer!

Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Datacentre Engineer with a strong mechanical and technical background to support the Customisation & Deployment of server/enterprise equipment within high‐performance and Datacentre environments. The ideal candidate will have hands‐on experience in Datacentres.

We are looking for the above skillset/experience combined with a strong commitment to quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.

This role will be based in our Hatfield Integration Centre working closely with our Operational, consultancy & infrastructure teams.

Location: Hatfield AL10 9TW

Rate: An hourly rate, in-scope IR35, of £14.90 (PAYE) OR £19.33 per hour (via a Hays Approved Umbrella Company).

Key Responsibilities

  • Rack n stack of active Network hardware, switches, routers & servers
  • Understand and follow patching schedule/cut sheet.
  • Installing power and data connection cables within server & networking racks.
  • Follow instructions and providing on-site support to remote network and systems administrators.
  • Read & follow Rack Elevation Diagrams
  • Apply basic IP Addressing under instruction/direction.
  • Installing and configuring UPS systems (Desirable)
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, and cross‐functional teams to ensure successful and timely deployments.
  • Follow all safety procedures, industry standards, and environmental guidelines during field operations.

Key Requirements

  • Must be very familiar with working in a Data Centre
  • Good understanding of various Structured Cabling Solutions
  • Capable of installing & Testing Fibre Optic cables
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, problem‐solving ability, and high attention to detail.
  • Comfortable with performing hands‐on technical work.
  • OSHA 10/30 or equivalent safety certification preferred but not required.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working in high‐performance computing (HPC) or hyperscale data centre environments.
  • Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS), remote monitoring tools, or facility controls.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Ability to work to driven targets and SLA and time management skills.
