Reporting to: Technical Architect

Location: UK, Germany

Role Objectives:

The Junior Infrastructure Architect supports the design, documentation, and continuous improvement of the IT infrastructure landscape. Reporting to the Technical Architect (Infrastructure), the role contributes to architecture standards, solution designs, and technology roadmaps while gaining hands-on experience in enterprise and cloud infrastructure environments.

Key Results / Areas

Core Responsibilities

Architecture Support

  • Support the Technical Architect in designing and documenting infrastructure architectures and technical solutions.
  • Assist in maintaining infrastructure architecture diagrams, standards, and reference models.
  • Contribute to technology evaluations, proofs of concept, and architectural assessments.

Infrastructure Design & Documentation

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including low-level designs and architecture overviews.
  • Ensure designs align with architectural principles, security requirements, and operational standards.
  • Support dependency and impact analysis for infrastructure changes.

Project & Change Support

  • Participate in infrastructure-related projects, migrations, and transformation initiatives.
  • Support Change Management by providing architectural input and validation.
  • Assist in reviewing technical changes for architectural compliance.

Operational Alignment & Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborate with operations teams to ensure designs are supportable and resilient.
  • Support root cause analysis activities by providing architectural insights.
  • Continuously develop architectural skills and stay informed about emerging infrastructure technologies.

Stakeholder & Communication Management

  • Work closely with the Technical Architect to align solutions with the target architecture.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure engineers, cloud teams, and security specialists.
  • Support communication of architectural decisions and standards to technical teams.

Knowledge, qualifications, and experience

Required Skills & Experience

  • Initial experience in infrastructure engineering, systems administration, or a related technical role.
  • Basic understanding of infrastructure architecture concepts (on-prem, cloud, hybrid).
  • Knowledge of networking, compute, storage, virtualization, and operating systems.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, or OCI) is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical mindset and willingness to learn architectural best practices.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Entry-level or associate certifications (e.g. cloud fundamentals, infrastructure certifications) are an advantage.

Situational Requirements

  • Comfortable travelling– a dispersed geographic spread of countries.
  • Able to work across multiple time zones.
