Lead Solutions Architect (Edinburgh Hybrid)
About the role
Head Resourcing are pleased to be working with a highly regarded company in Edinburgh who are looking for an experienced Lead Solution Architect to define and deliver modern, scalable architectures built on microservices and event-driven patterns. You’ll guide architecture decisions for a platform or innovation-focused environment, enabling engineering teams to deliver quickly and safely. Working closely with Product Owners, delivery teams, and enterprise-level architecture colleagues, you’ll ensure solutions are maintainable, resilient, and aligned to longer-term technology direction.
Key responsibilities:
- Define target architectures and roadmaps that support strategic outcomes, with a strong emphasis on microservices and event-based designs.
- Lead solution design for complex initiatives, translating business needs into clear, pragmatic technical approaches.
- Partner with Product Owners and engineering teams to remove friction, accelerate delivery, and ensure architectural alignment.
- Establish and promote engineering patterns, standards, and reference designs that improve consistency and quality.
- Ensure solutions meet expectations for governance, quality, risk management, and controlled change.
- Mentor and coach engineers and architects, building strong technical communities and raising the bar on engineering practice.
- Contribute to long-term technology strategy by developing methods and frameworks that optimise delivery, cost, and platform performance.
Key skills and experience:
- Proven experience in architecture and engineering, designing cloud-native and microservices-based solutions.
- Strong hands-on background (e.g., software engineering) with a solid grasp of build, deployment, and modern delivery practices.
- Experience designing event-driven systems and integration approaches (e.g., messaging/streaming patterns).
- Track record of modernising legacy or monolithic applications into more modular, service-oriented ecosystems.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills—able to “tell the story” of an architecture and bring stakeholders with you.
- Practical experience defining and rolling out standards, patterns, and engineering best practices across teams.
- Strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills; able to energise and align cross-functional groups.
Hybrid:
2 days per week onsite in Edinburgh
Salary:
Up to £109k depending on experience + benefits
