Test Lead (Glasgow - Hybrid)
Head Resourcing is pleased to be working with a strong financial services organisation in Glasgow who are looking for a skilled and motivated Test Lead to join our Operations function, working closely with both the Change and Testing and IT Development teams. This role will play a key part in ensuring that testing activity across projects and change initiatives is well-planned, executed effectively, and aligned with the organisations enterprise testing framework.
As Test Lead, youll take ownership of designing and delivering high-quality testing solutions, while also providing hands-on testing support for key initiatives. Youll guide and mentor colleagues across various projects helping them create effective test plans, manage risks, and build their testing capability.
Strong communication skills are essential, as youll collaborate with stakeholders across all levels of the organisation, ensuring clarity, engagement, and a shared commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.
Youll thrive in this role if you bring a keen eye for detail, a drive to overcome challenges, and a passion for continuous improvement in testing and delivery practices. This position also carries line management responsibility for a small team of testers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain comprehensive test plans and schedules in line with project timelines and goals
- Lead and coordinate testing activities across multiple projects, teams, and environments
- Allocate and monitor tasks within the test team to ensure quality and timely delivery
- Review and validate test cases, scripts, and data to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Arrange appropriate test environments and data for project needs
- Facilitate defect triage sessions, managing issue tracking and resolution
- Collaborate with product owners, developers, and business analysts to confirm requirements and test coverage
- Track and report key quality metrics such as defect density, coverage, and pass/fail rates
- Promote best practices and continuous improvement within the testing function
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior team members
- Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT), Performance Testing, and Operational Acceptance Testing (OAT) as required
- Contribute to release planning and quality assurance strategy
Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Proven experience as a Test Lead, Senior QA Engineer, or similar role
- Hands-on experience with manual and/or automated testing for web, mobile, and enterprise systems
- Strong knowledge of QA methodologies, frameworks, and processes
- Solid understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and various delivery models (Agile, Waterfall, hybrid)
- Strong SQL capabilities
- Strong grasp of Risk-Based Testing approaches
- Proficient with test management and defect tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, Zephyr)
- Excellent planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities
- ISTQB Foundation certification
Desirable:
- Working knowledge of test automation, performance, or security testing tools
- Basic understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Familiarity with API testing tools (e.g., Postman)
- Understanding of Product Risk Assessments and their application in Risk-Based Testing
- Advanced testing certifications such as ISTQB Advanced Test Manager
Hybrid: 2 days per week in Glasgow
Salary: Up to 50k
Pension: 10%
