Hereworks is in a growth phase at present, HQ’d in Ashbourne, Co. Meath, Ireland with a UK office in Cambridge, England, as a result we are re-aligning our team as we prepare for continued growth and are seeking a Smart Building Solutions Architect to join the Hereworks Team.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an ambitious, self-motivated, hard-working individual to become part of the Hereworks Team as a Smart Building Solutions Architect. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and delivery of integrated smart building solutions encompassing IoT devices, Building Management Systems (BMS), HVAC control, lighting automation, access control, energy management, workplace technologies, and intelligent AV/IT infrastructure.

The role bridges IT and Operational Technology (OT) systems, delivering scalable, secure, and future-proof smart building environments. However, the Solutions Architect role extends beyond technical design. This is a strategic and consultative position that combines system architecture, digital transformation, operational insight, and human-centric design to create intelligent, responsive, and data-driven building ecosystems.

The position plays a key role in shaping the future of workplace experience, sustainability, operational efficiency, and smart building innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Design end-to-end smart building solutions integrating HVAC, lighting, security, AV, IoT, workplace technologies, and automation systems.
  • Interpret client requirements and operational objectives to develop smart building use cases and outcome-driven solutions.
  • Provide a consultative role for clients in the development of digital building strategies and intelligent workplace environments.
  • Develop use case-to-system alignment proposals and technology roadmaps.
  • Produce detailed system drawings, network diagrams, control logic flows, technical specifications, sequence of operations (DesOps), and integration documentation.
  • Develop Bill of Materials (BOM), system architecture documentation, and technical scope documents.
  • Perform site surveys and needs analysis to understand environmental, operational, and infrastructure requirements where required.
  • Collaborate with architects, MEP consultants, IT teams, workplace strategists, and project stakeholders to deliver cohesive building technology designs.
  • Assist with the design development of converged OT/IT network architectures supporting AV, IoT, BMS, and smart building systems.
  • Integrate advanced technologies and protocols such as BACnet, KNX, Modbus, LoRaWAN, MQTT, REST APIs, and cloud-based IoT platforms into system designs.
  • Develop integration strategies for Building Operating Systems (BOS), digital twin platforms, analytics platforms, and operational dashboards.
  • Understand operational platforms such as KODE Labs, TwinView, and related smart building management environments.
  • Design and integrate workplace experience applications such as Appspace, Cureoscity, room booking platforms, wayfinding systems, occupancy analytics, and digital signage solutions.
  • Understand strategies for data aggregation, analytics, fault detection, predictive maintenance, and AI-driven building insights.
  • Ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards, energy efficiency requirements, and building standards including ASHRAE, LEED, WELL, and relevant industry best practices.
  • Support lifecycle planning, scalability, maintainability, and future-proofing of smart building deployments.
  • Stay current with emerging trends in IoT, AI-driven building analytics, workplace technologies, intelligent space design, and smart building innovation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Automation, or related technical field.
  • Minimum 3+ years in smart building, BMS, or integrated technology design.
  • Understanding of protocols like BACnet, KNX, LoraWan, MQTT, and Modbus.
  • Strong knowledge of IP networking, PoE devices, and IoT architecture.
  • Knowledge of various air quality sensors and space analytics systems.
  • Experience integrating HVAC, lighting control, access control, and energy management systems.
  • Strong project documentation and system design skills.

Desired but not Essential

  • LEED AP, WELL AP, or equivalent sustainability certifications.
  • CTS, CCNA, CompTIA certifications are an advantage.
  • Experience with data analytics or operations platforms for smart buildings.
  • Experience with workplace management platforms.
