About the role:

We are seeking a Structural Engineer to work across our Technical Excellence Group and Computational Design team in a full-time role.

At HTS, we are committed to pushing the boundaries of low-carbon and innovative structural engineering. Our team drives research and development across the practice, connecting advanced structural theory and computational workflows with practical project delivery.

This non-project role is primarily to aid in delivery and development of initiatives within the Technical Excellence and Computational teams. More broadly, the candidate should expect to eventually become a leader and representative of these aspects within the practice. They should have confidence to speak publicly about their work to share knowledge and promote best practice.

Key Responsibilities

Technical

  • Engage in research, testing, and development of complex or innovative structural concepts to uphold our position as industry leaders.
  • Conduct research on construction materials, supply chains, sustainability, and circularity, and effectively communicate findings both internally and externally.
  • Lead the authoring of internal technical approach notes and standardised technical documentation
  • Foster partnerships with academic institutions for experimentation and testing
  • Collaborate with internal teams contributing to the expansion of our knowledge base and service offerings.

Computational

  • Create design tools and resources aimed at enhancing our efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Assist in development of computational workflows to suit and enhance the HTS process.
  • Work alongside our software development team to deploy tools into proprietary or bespoke platforms.
  • Champion computational design within the practice. Aid with other engineers to develop/employ computational techniques in their day to day work.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong numerical and analytical abilities, with a passion for delving into complex problems.
  • Strong engineering foundation with in-depth knowledge of industry codes of practice and guidance, and a proven track record of applying these to complex, non-standard problems
  • Proficiency in text based and/or visual based programming. This could include Python, Rhino/Grasshopper, Matlab, C++, Dynamo, etc,
  • Experience in application of text or visual based programming within a design consultancy environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of finite element analysis software
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively, with a tenacious approach to overcoming challenges.
  • Lateral thinking skills and a creative mindset, enabling you to explore innovative solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical concepts effectively to diverse audiences.
