Senior Test Automation Engineer (Python, API / Backend)

We are recruiting for a Senior Test Automation Engineer to join an engineering team working on large-scale backend platforms and SDKs. This role is heavily focused on API testing and Python-based automation and is suited to experienced engineers with a strong technical QA background.

This is not a UI-focused or manual QA role.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and execute automated and manual tests for backend systems and APIs

  • Analyse requirements and produce detailed test plans and test cases

  • Maintain and extend an existing Python-based automation framework

  • Develop and execute API and SDK tests, including regression, negative, and backward-compatibility testing

  • Identify, log, and verify defects and work closely with engineers to resolve issues

  • Contribute to quality, reliability, and testability improvements across the platform

  • Test applications deployed in cloud environments

Requirements

  • Significant experience in test automation within a software engineering environment

  • Strong experience testing APIs and backend services

  • Hands-on experience writing automation in Python

  • Experience with Java, JSON, XML, and web services

  • Comfortable working in a Linux development environment

  • Strong troubleshooting skills across both black-box and white-box testing

  • Solid understanding of authentication and authorisation mechanisms

  • Experience using source control and defect tracking tools

  • Experience with commerce, payments, or financial systems is advantageous

  • Degree in Computer Science or a related field preferred
