Senior Database Adminstrator

Job summary

The post holder will have specialist knowledge of SQL Server and be responsible for the security and support of the databases underpinning the Trusts Information and Clinical systems and reporting tools used in the capture/provision of high quality clinical and management information to end users throughout the Trust. To provide systems support and enhancements for core hospitals systems.

This is a Group-wide role across multiple sites. The Information Services teams are based at Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham Hull and New Beacon House, Scunthorpe. Teams run a hybrid of office and remote working arrangements.

Main duties of the job

    • Responsible for ensuring that any SQL Server instances that the department are responsible for remain secure, reliable and available
    • Responsible for monitoring of SQL Server to ensure it has not been compromised and that all required security patches are applied in a controlled manner, liaising with key individuals as appropriate if downtime is required
    • Provide advice and guidance on the design, configuration, optimisation and secure use of SQL Server databases and associated data services
    • Responsible for the installation; patching; and configuration of SQL Server
    • Responsible for performance tuning and query optimization
    • Responsible for configuration and maintenance of backups, including regular testing of backup and restore procedures
    • Responsible for the configuration and monitoring of high-availability and disaster recovery features
    • Responsible for configuring and monitoring security and ensuring that security configuration complies with relevant standards and audit recommendations
    • Provide assistance to the Business Intelligence team with ETL operations and report creation.
    • Provide assistance to the Business Intelligence and Systems Development teams with ETL operations, report creation and database design
    • Create and maintain documentation of the SQL server estate and related processes

Experience

  • Minimum of two years' experience working in a Database Administrator role or comparable role
  • Demonstrable experience of Database Administration
Desirable
  • Minimum of five years' experience working in a Database Administrator or comparable role
  • DBA experience with other database platforms, such as Oracle and Cache
  • Understanding of hospital systems such as Patient Administration Systems an advantage
  • Proven experience of the line management of staff

  • High level awareness of data quality and its importance in delivering high quality information

  • Awareness of current technologies and opportunities available to the Trust to develop its information systems
  • Knowledge of the complex and varying patient pathways in a variety of services across the Trust would be an advantage
