Tech Lead (API) | Mostly Remote | Up to £80k

We’re working with a well established technology business that builds large scale, mission critical software used by hundreds of thousands of users every day. Their platform is undergoing a major transformation, moving away from legacy systems towards a modern, API first architecture designed for scalability, performance, and long term maintainability.

They are now looking for an experienced Tech Lead to take ownership of a core API platform. This is a hands on leadership role combining technical delivery, architectural decision making, platform modernisation, and people management. You’ll lead a small, focused engineering team while working closely with Product and QA to deliver robust, high quality backend systems.

What you’ll be doing

• Owning the technical direction and architecture of an API driven platform
• Leading the migration from legacy systems to modern backend services
• Defining standards for API design, versioning, security, and documentation
• Writing high quality production code and leading by example
• Line managing and mentoring engineers, supporting their development
• Contributing to scalable cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and platform reliability
• Acting as the technical escalation point for the team

What they’re looking for

• Proven experience as a Tech Lead or Senior Engineer within backend or platform focused environments
• Strong experience building and maintaining APIs in production systems
• Solid understanding of object oriented design and scalable architecture
• Commercial experience with PHP/Symfony and exposure to Go/Golang or an interest in working within Go based environments
• Exposure to frontend technologies such as JavaScript or Vue.js
• Experience working with AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, or similar cloud native tooling
• Experience modernising legacy systems or working within high throughput environments would be beneficial
• A collaborative, pragmatic, and communicative approach to engineering
