What we do

Huq Industries is a SaaS vendor disrupting the location intelligence industry. We are building the “single source of truth” for location intelligence, for businesses that rely on the performance of their real estate choices (shops, cafes, gyms etc). Our customers include organisations at the central and sub-national level, top management consultancies, retailers, real estate companies, and asset managers.

Huq is headquartered in London, UK and is rapidly expanding its team of sales and software professionals committed to providing accurate, reliable insights and great service.

Who are we

Huq is a fast-growing company with a workforce dedicated to excellence in all that we do. Our culture is one of working hard and with single-minded purpose, not one that maintains a regime of long hours.

We prioritise quality and strive for excellence and efficiency. Our working environment is friendly, focused, and supportive – we work hard but we have fun too.

Our values

  • Huq strives for values that help us to do things properly while growing at pace. These values apply to everyone in our workforce and include:
  • Being efficient
  • Being decisive
  • Being open-minded
  • Being thoughtful
  • Taking responsibility
  • These values translate into products and outputs that help businesses and organisations to unlock opportunities.

The role

We are looking for a high-growth, hands-on QA Engineer who is motivated by ownership and the opportunity to shape how QA is done across a fast-growing business. This is a role where you can make a real impact, grow your skills, and influence the quality of our software from the ground up.

This role is particularly well suited to a mid-level QA Engineer looking to step into a position with greater ownership and influence. While you will be the sole QA Engineer, quality is a shared responsibility across engineering, and you will be supported by the Head of Engineering as you grow the function.

You will be responsible for both manual and automated testing, ensuring confidence in releases, and building scalable automation. Developers will own unit and integration tests; your focus will be system-level quality, release confidence, and driving best practices.

Key responsibilities

  • Own and develop the QA function across the business.
  • Create and maintain a dedicated QA repository with end-to-end tests written in Playwright.
  • Run automated E2E tests against deployed environments when required.
  • Integrate automated tests into the CI/CD pipeline so they run against changes being deployed to an environment.
  • Perform smoke testing against production to ensure no critical functionality has been broken.
  • Create, maintain, and evolve test plans and test strategies.
  • Manually test tickets as they move through the board and add appropriate automated coverage where valuable.
  • Take full ownership of the Playwright automation framework, enhancing, refining, and extending it to improve coverage and reliability.
  • Expand the automation suite across critical user journeys, regression flows, and integration scenarios.
  • Drive best practices in UI automation, including test stability, consistency, and efficient execution.
  • Work closely with software engineers in an Agile environment to embed quality throughout the development lifecycle.

Required experience and skills

  • Minimum 3 years’ hands-on experience in test automation and manual testing.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with Playwright.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with TypeScript / JavaScript.
  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions).
  • Experience working alongside software developers in an Agile environment.
  • Understanding of UI, API, and integration testing approaches, and when to apply them.
  • Effective communicator.
  • Collaborative team player who contributes to overall team success.
  • Positive attitude with the ability to handle challenges constructively.

Nice to have

  • Experience with load testing and performance testing.
  • Experience improving or scaling QA practices in a growing engineering team.
  • Familiarity with data-intensive systems, data pipelines, or basic data engineering concepts.
  • Comfort with mathematical reasoning, statistics, or working with large datasets in a QA context.

Key personal attributes

  • High energy, initiative, and a strong sense of ownership, particularly important as automation is in its early stages.
  • Ability to influence teams and bring others along on the quality and automation journey.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and a consultative approach to quality.
  • Thrives in fast-paced, evolving Agile environments.
  • Passionate about continuous improvement, innovation, and raising engineering standards.
  • While experience is important, we place equal value on attitude, curiosity, and a commitment to learning and growth. We are looking for someone excited by the opportunity to take ownership, develop their skills, and shape how QA operates as the company grows.
