Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Network Design Authority with deep expertise in Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN (Viptela) to lead the design, governance, and technical assurance of enterprise-scale WAN transformation programmes.

This is not a general network engineering or firewall implementation role. The successful candidate will demonstrate proven hands-on and architectural experience specifically with Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN / Viptela , operating as a technical authority within complex, highly regulated environments.

The role requires strong leadership across architecture, governance, stakeholder engagement, and solution assurance, with the ability to define and validate strategic SD-WAN designs for mission-critical environments.

Mandatory ExperienceCisco Catalyst SD-WAN / Viptela

Candidates must demonstrate recent, hands-on project experience with:

• Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN (formerly Viptela)
• vManage
• vBond
• vSmart
• SD-WAN policy design and segmentation
• Overlay/underlay architecture
• WAN transformation and migration strategy
• Enterprise-scale deployment governance

The above experience must be clearly evidenced within project work history and not simply listed as generic skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the technical design authority for Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN solutions
• Lead end-to-end WAN architecture and design assurance activities
• Define SD-WAN strategy, governance, standards, and best practices
• Review and approve low-level and high-level designs
• Provide technical leadership across delivery, engineering, and operational teams
• Engage with senior stakeholders, security teams, and enterprise architects
• Ensure solutions align with regulatory, security, and operational requirements
• Support complex migration, transformation, and integration activities
• Provide escalation support for critical technical issues and design challenges

Required Technical SkillsEssential

• Strong expertise in Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN / Viptela
• Proven hands-on experience with:
  • vManage
  • vBond
  • vSmart
  • WAN edge deployment and policy control
• Enterprise routing and switching
• BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VPN technologies
• Network segmentation and secure WAN architecture
• Design governance and technical assurance
• Large-scale enterprise or multi-site network transformation

Desirable

• Cisco certifications (CCNP, CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure, or equivalent)
• Experience integrating SD-WAN with security platforms and cloud environments
• ITIL or enterprise governance exposure
• Automation and infrastructure-as-code exposure
