About the Company

Our client develops advanced software to detect cancer using AI and MRI, aiming to make cancer screening more accurate, accessible, and cost-effective. With deep ties to the Cambridge research community, they are building a collaborative team of experts in AI, user interfaces, and medical imaging.

The Role

As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you will lead research and development projects from initial concept through to integration into production software. You will work extensively with Python and AI frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow to develop and train models for image segmentation, feature extraction, registration, and lesion identification within cloud environments. Your role will also involve supporting clinical studies and regulatory submissions, preparing technical publications, and contributing to conference papers. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with clinical, engineering, and business teams to ensure that AI solutions meet stringent medical requirements. Additionally, you will drive innovation on the company’s flagship product, with opportunities to propose new R&D projects and explore additional therapeutic areas.

What's required for this Senior Machine Learning Software Engineer position?

Required:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in a STEM field (preferably Machine Learning/AI, Data Science, or Computer Science) or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years’ hands-on experience in machine learning or deep learning, including at least 2 years in image processing (ideally medical imaging).
  • Proficiency in Python and ML/DL frameworks (PyTorch or TensorFlow).
  • Strong theoretical and practical understanding of ML/DL techniques, demonstrated by academic or professional projects.
  • Experience with Git, Linux, and command-line tools.

Desirable:

  • Experience with medical image processing, DICOM, ITK/SimpleITK.
  • Familiarity with deploying ML models or MLOps tools (MLFlow, Kubernetes, DVC, Docker).
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle.
  • Clinical research or commercial experience in regulated/healthcare domains.
