IT Asset & Customer Support Apprentice
We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised IT Apprentice to join our team to provide IT asset and technical support services.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone starting their career in IT, keen to develop their technical knowledge, customer service skills and knowledge of professional IT environments.
Role
IT Equipment & Asset Management:
- Receive and inspect laptops, desktops, monitors, mobile devices and other IT equipment.
- Accurately record equipment details, including asset numbers, serial numbers, make, model and condition.
- Update and maintain IT asset management systems and spreadsheets.
- Label and organise equipment in accordance with customer procedures.
- Track the movement of equipment between users, storage locations and deployment.
- Prepare equipment for collection, deployment, return or disposal.
Maintain an organised and secure IT equipment storage area.
Secure Data Wiping:
- Carry out secure data wiping of laptops, desktops, hard drives and other storage devices in accordance with company and customer procedures.
- Operating system upgrades.
- Follow approved data-erasure processes and software.
- Record completed wipes and maintain appropriate audit records.
- Escalate any equipment that cannot be successfully wiped or requires further investigation.
- Ensure all equipment containing customer data is handled securely and confidentially.
IT Support:
- 1st/2nd line IT support.
- Assist IT technicians with day-to-day hardware and technical support tasks.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of laptops, desktops, monitors, peripherals and other IT equipment.
- Assist with setting up and preparing equipment for new and existing users.
- Support the deployment and collection of IT equipment.
- Assist with basic software installation and configuration where required.
- Escalate more complex technical issues to senior members of the IT team.
Customer Service:
- Work professionally and courteously when dealing with the customer and their employees.
- Respond to requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain confidentiality when handling customer equipment and information.
- Follow customer-specific processes, security requirements and site procedures.
- Develop a strong understanding of the customer's IT environment and requirements.
Documentation & Administration:
- Keep accurate records of all equipment received, processed, stored and issued.
- Complete required checklists, tickets and asset records.
- Maintain clear audit trails for equipment and data-wiping activities.
- Assist with stock checks and periodic IT asset audits.
- Identify discrepancies and report them to the appropriate member of the team.
Training
On the job training delivered by the employer.
Apprentices without Level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end point assessment. For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement, the apprenticeships English and mathematics minimum requirement is Entry Level 3.
Allocation of an apprenticeship delivery coach who will carry out regular training.
Assessment and support visits to ensure you acquire new learning, knowledge skills and behaviours in order to progress and develop.
Identify, track and support 6 hours off the job training activities.
Quarterly formal progress review meetings, identifying learning achievements and next steps.
Clear opportunities for progression within the IT team.
