Virtualisation Engineer (Contract)
£400 per day | Outside IR35 | Mostly Remote (occasional travel to Portsmouth) | SC Clearance Required
We are seeking an SC-cleared Virtualisation Engineer to support a high-profile programme within a secure environment. This role focuses on designing, implementing, and supporting complex virtualised infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on VMware, NSX, and VDI technologies, working closely with infrastructure and network teams.
Key Responsibilities- Design, implement, and support VMware-based virtualisation environments
- Configure and manage networking using VMware NSX
- Support and enhance VDI solutions
- Manage Windows infrastructure including Active Directory, GPO, permissions, and domain services
- Deploy virtual machines and enable system communications
- Collaborate with internal teams to deliver required virtual infrastructure
- Act as a senior technical resource, providing guidance to engineering teams
- Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and performance issues
- Contribute to continuous improvement and best practices within a secure environment
- Extensive hands-on experience with VMware (vSphere, vCenter)
- Strong experience with VMware NSX (essential)
- Proven experience delivering and supporting VDI environments
- Solid understanding of enterprise networking concepts
- Strong Windows infrastructure experience (Active Directory, GPO, permissions, domain services)
- Ability to operate as a senior engineer engaging with technical teams and stakeholders
- Experience working in secure / SC-cleared environments
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capability
- Experience within Defence or highly regulated sectors
- Relevant certifications such as VMware VCP
