Software Engineer – High-Performance Computing (HPC) / Quant Technology

The opportunityWe’re working with a highly specialised technology business that solves some of the most technically demanding problems in high-performance computing, quantitative technology and large-scale software systems.
Their engineers work on complex compute-intensive applications used within financial services and other performance-critical environments, covering areas such as large-scale numerical workloads, risk analytics, simulation, CPU/GPU computing and low-latency systems.
They are now looking for a talented Software Engineer with an interest in High-Performance Computing (HPC) to join their growing London team.
This isn't a role where you'll spend years working on one narrow component of a large system. You'll have the opportunity to work across different technologies and technical challenges, gaining exposure to everything from software architecture and distributed computing through to GPU performance, numerical workloads and quantitative applications.
For someone who genuinely enjoys understanding how software and hardware behave under the hood, it offers a particularly interesting technical environment.
What you'll be working onDepending on the project, you could be:
- Developing software for compute-intensive and performance-critical applications
- Investigating and improving the performance of large-scale workloads
- Working with CPU and GPU-based computing environments
- Building and optimising software used for quantitative, risk and analytical workloads
- Working with engineers and quantitative specialists to understand complex computational problems
- Investigating areas such as memory usage, concurrency, parallelism and computational performance
- Contributing to distributed computing and batch-processing systems
- Designing reliable, maintainable software for demanding production environments
- Working across multiple technical domains rather than being restricted to a single technology stack
The work can range from quantitative finance workloads to detailed discussions around GPU kernels, memory layouts and system performance.
What we're looking forWe're much more interested in technical ability, curiosity and genuine enthusiasm for computing than finding someone with an identical background.
You should have:
- Strong academic record; degree from a leading university
- At least 1 year of professional, full-time software engineering experience
- Commercial experience with at least one of Python, C++, Java or C#
- Experience with a lower-level/manual-memory programming language such as C, C++ or Rust
- A strong interest in computer performance, systems or computationally intensive software
- Experience or exposure to either:
- High-Performance Computing (HPC), or
- technology within financial services, trading, risk, quantitative analytics or similar environments
- The ability to learn unfamiliar technical areas quickly
- An interest in understanding systems beyond simply making the code work
Candidates must also have the unrestricted right to live and work in the UK.
