Technical Role Summary

The BroadWorks Technician is responsible for the engineering, operation, and lifecycle management of BroadWorks-based UCaaS platforms. The role covers core voice services, signalling, media handling, and interconnects, with a strong focus on platform stability, scalability, and fault isolation in multi-tenant environments.

This position requires advanced SIP/VoIP expertise, hands-on Cisco BroadWorks design & Configuration, and the ability to diagnose complex call flows across distributed systems and carrier networks.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Design, Engineer, configure, and operate Cisco BroadWorks application servers and supporting components
  • Execute cluster builds, version upgrades, and platform migrations with minimal service impact
  • Perform deep-dive troubleshooting of SIP signalling, RTP media paths, and SBC call flows
  • Analyse SIP traces and protocol captures to isolate interop, routing, and media issues
  • Integrate BroadWorks with provisioning, billing, OSS/BSS, and third-party service platforms
  • Support and configure SBCs for carrier and customer interconnects
  • Collaborate with development and operations teams on automation, monitoring, and platform optimisation
  • Provide advanced escalation support and technical guidance to operations teams
  • Produce and maintain low-level technical documentation and operational runbooks
  • Participate in out-of-hours and on-call support for production platforms

Core Technical Skills

  • Expert-level understanding of SIP, SDP, RTP/RTCP, DNS, and VoIP call routing
  • Hands-on experience with SBC configuration and SIP interop troubleshooting
  • Advanced packet-level analysis using tools such as Wireshark, Homer, or equivalent
  • Strong Linux systems administration, networking, and service monitoring experience
  • Practical knowledge of VoIP endpoints, SIP devices, FXS/E1 gateways, and media hardware
  • Ability to operate independently in a remote, distributed engineering environment

Additional Technical Experience (Desirable)

  • Extensive operational experience with Cisco BroadWorks
  • Webex for BroadWorks architecture and integration knowledge
  • Experience supporting SBC platforms
  • Automation and tooling using scripting languages or REST-based APIs
  • Understanding of carrier-grade voice concepts including numbering, routing, and interconnects
  • Exposure to virtualised or cloud-based infrastructure (AWS, Azure, VMware)
