Overview

We are seeking an experienced .NET C# Contractor to join a major technology initiative within a leading commodities trading organisation. The successful candidate will work on the enhancement, integration, and optimisation of trading and risk applications used across front, middle, and back-office functions.

This role is suited to a hands-on engineer with strong technical depth and proven experience working directly within commodities trading environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, enhance, and maintain .NET/C# applications supporting trading, risk, and operational workflows
  • Work on system integrations across front-office trading platforms, risk systems, and operational tools
  • Collaborate with architects, product owners, and business analysts to deliver high-quality, production-ready solutions
  • Support API development, data pipelines, and services used across trading desks
  • Troubleshoot and optimise application performance, ensuring stability and scalability
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering practices
  • Assist in migrating legacy components into modern .NET frameworks where required

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong commercial experience with C#/.NET development
  • Proven background working within a commodities trading company (oil, gas, power, metals, or similar)
  • Deep understanding of trade lifecycle, PnL, risk, and market data flows
  • Experience integrating trading or risk platforms with downstream systems
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases
  • Solid understanding of messaging, APIs, and service-based architectures
  • Ability to deliver clean, maintainable, and well-tested code within deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working closely with front-office and technology stakeholders

Desirable Skills

  • Exposure to cloud environments (AWS or Azure)
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tooling
  • Familiarity with pricing, analytics, or risk engines
  • Knowledge of event-driven architectures or microservices
