Data Scientist
Job summary
We are seeking a motivated Data Scientist to play a key role in the development of VESTA app, developing innovative home based diagnostic and treatment technology for Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV).
You will work with IMU data to validate 3D motion trajectories, create real time sensing and feedback algorithms, and collaborate closely with clinicians and engineers to ensure accurate, safe delivery of BPPV manoeuvres through a mobile app. This role is ideal for someone with experience in vestibular research who wants to drive the development of scalable, data driven digital health solutions.
Main duties of the job
- Develop, run, and maintain analytics pipelines for allocated projects.
- Extract, curate, and validate the data from inertial sensors; ensure reusability and reproducibility of methods.
- Develop algorithms for real-time sensing and feedback for accuracy of positional manoeuvres.
- Close collaboration with clinical team to update methodological approaches as needed for an integrated app.
- Participate and collaborate in team's projects.
- Negotiate and persuade staff and researchers to achieve end goal.
- Work independently to plan and organise workload to meet deadlines.
- Participate in project related and general team meetings.
- Develop and maintain effective networks and relationships with key stakeholders.

Person Specification
Education/ qualifications
- Undergraduate engineering degree in relevant subject
- Completed/ongoing doctoral qualification
Experience
- Experience in programming for analytics such as MATLAB, python, R.
- Experience working in a clinical and/or human vestibular laboratory and/or neurophysiological laboratory, e.g. electromyography, eye tracking, posturography.
- Experience defining and delivering end-to-end systems across components/teamsSpecialist knowledge acquired through training and experience
- Proven track record of successfully delivery of projects within timescales
- Experience of verbal and written presentation of information to specialist and lay audiences.
- Experience of working with patients
- Experience of using data analytics in academic and healthcare research
- Note: wet-lab experience on its own is insufficient experience for this post.
- Experience of working in a clinical environment
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge of workflow and processes in a clinical environment
Skills/knowledge/ abilities
- Demonstrable knowledge of analytical approaches relevant to project
- Ability to explain complex ideas to non-experts
