Imperial currently uses Cerner ePMA, which is shared with Chelsea and Westminster Foundation Trust, London Northwest Hospitals, and The Hillingdon Hospital, as part of North West London Acute Provider Group.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Pharmacist to join our electronic prescribing and medicines administration (ePMA) team.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide clinical expertise on the maintenance, development, improvement and change for Cerner electronic prescribing system and administration system.
  • To co-ordinate e-prescribing and medicines administration training for doctors, pharmacy and other staff groups across the Trust to help ensure educated and informed end users.
  • To provide e-prescribing and medicines administration expertise & support to Imperial doctors, nurses, pharmacy, ICT and other staff via semi-formalised helpdesk/email, bleep or phone
  • To work with senior leadership on arising issues to ensure that ePMA system is fit for purpose and suitable for use across the Trust.
  • To support senior leadership in the management and co-ordination of ePMA services for all sites at Imperial in line with Trust priorities and pharmacy strategic objectives.
  • To provide on-site in-hours and out of hours support for upgrades to software and hardware for Cerner e-prescribing and medication administration system. To provide on-call support at implementation.
  • To assist with projects involving implementation, optimisation, governance, improvement, quality & safety for Cerner e-prescribing and medication administration system. To convey and promote benefits of ePMA and ensure any implementation is carried out in an effective and safe manner.

Person Specification

Education/ Qualifications

Essential
  • Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Member of the GPhC
  • Certificate in Pharmacy Practice
  • Diploma in clinical pharmacy practice
Desirable
  • Further qualifications in IT and data management
  • Appropriate management short courses

Experience

Essential
  • Comprehensive post registration NHS hospital experience with indepth knowledge of hospital pharmacy services. This must include a solid grounding in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice (medicines information, aseptic services, ward services and dispensing)
  • Extensive experience in use and knowledge of electronic prescribing systems
  • Experience in management of others
  • Experience of implementing and managing change, experience of working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrate the ability to appropriately recommend, substantiate and communicate options both clinically for patients and technically for systems
Desirable
  • Experience in implementing ePMA in secondary care

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential
  • Ability to communicate complex information
  • Good clinical practice knowledge
  • Demonstrates advanced level of clinical reasoning and judgement to manage difficult and ambiguous problems
  • Ability to influence senior pharmacy and medical staff, the multidisciplinary team and management
