Locum Consultant HIV/Sexual Health

Job summary

We are looking to appoint an innovative and enthusiastic Locum Consultant in HIV/Sexual Health.

This post is required to provide Consultant supervision of the outpatient delivery of HIV/Sexual Health services at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to manage a large cohort of HIV outpatients; will be part of the 'EMERGE' team that provides daily remote review of patients with HIV who have been hospitalised within the Trust or attend for unscheduled care and they will contribute to HIV MDT and virtual clinic meetings. The post-holder will also supervise the 'CORE' sexual health clinic at Jefferiss which provides assessment and management of patients with sexual health and contraceptive needs.

The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary team of Consultants, Specialist trainees, GP trainees, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Nurses and Pharmacists who work in HIV and Sexual Health.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work closely with other members of the team to lead and supervise the delivery of high quality HIV/Sexual Health services within the strategic framework agreed by the team. They will work closely with the appropriate clinical management teams. The post holder will undertake outpatient duties on weekdays only. Inpatient and on-call duties are not included in this post.

Job description

Job responsibilities

This post is an 8PA Locum Consultant in HIV and Sexual Health to cover a vacancy created by partial retirement.

The main duties will include managing a large cohort of HIV outpatients; working within the HIV MDT/EMERGE teams and supervising the CORE sexual health clinic at Jefferiss for patients with sexual health and contraceptive needs.

It is envisaged that the successful applicant will complete 3 HIV outpatient clinics, 1 HIV EMERGE meeting (30 mins) and 2 sexual health clinics per week. They will attend the HIV MDT and virtual clinics plus other scheduled departmental meetings. There will be adequate clinical admin and SPA time provided within the agreed job plan.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to become a clinical supervisor for a member of the medical team. They will be expected to contribute towards the departments governance and research priorities and have the opportunity to become involved in management and educational portfolios.

Education/ qualifications

Essential
  • Full and Specialist Genitourinary Medicine registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC)
  • Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
  • Appropriate Royal College Membership
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification

Knowledge/ skills

Essential
  • Good general medical background
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current issues in HIV and Sexual Health
  • IT Skills and computer literacy
  • Is up to date and fit to practice safely
  • Experience in HIV complex case management and treatment decisions
  • Experience of supervising HIV and Sexual Health MDTs

Leadership/ management skills

  • Able to take responsibility, show leadership, make decisions, exert appropriate authority
  • Have proven skills in leading, motivating, developing and managing the performance of colleagues.
