Senior Surveillance Analyst

Job summary

The Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) team is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative and experienced Surveillance Analyst to join the team on a fixed-term basis to provide maternity cover. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of healthcare surveillance, supporting the development of data-driven approaches to improve patient safety, infection prevention and clinical outcomes across one of the largest NHS trusts in the country.

The successful post holder will lead the development and maintenance of surveillance and reporting systems across IPC and antimicrobial stewardship, bringing together modern systems design, data management and surveillance methodologies. They will provide high-quality intelligence to support operational, clinical and strategic decision-making, ensuring that reporting requirements are delivered accurately and efficiently.

Working closely with clinical teams, digital services and the Trust's Business Intelligence function, the post holder will play a key role in strengthening the integration of surveillance data within wider organisational intelligence and performance frameworks, helping to support future developments in healthcare analytics and population health surveillance.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will work as part of the Infection Prevention and Control team and act as lead developer for surveillance and reporting systems supporting IPC, healthcare-associated infection surveillance and antimicrobial stewardship programmes.
  • They will be responsible for delivering high-quality analytical outputs, developing innovative reporting solutions and ensuring compliance with local and national reporting requirements.
  • The role will involve close collaboration with clinical services, digital teams and the central Business Intelligence function to support the continued development of integrated surveillance and intelligence capabilities across the Trust.
  • The post holder will contribute to service evaluation, quality improvement and research initiatives, whilst supporting the modernisation and automation of data collection, analysis and reporting processes that inform patient care, operational performance and strategic planning.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential
  • Expert knowledge of database design and formatting using SQL and MS Access analysis and computerised software
  • Proven track record of designing and developing a front-end clinical/informatics platform.
  • Advance skills in the use of Excel, SQL and MS Access platforms. Experience in a role involving analysis, investigation and resolution of complex analytical queries
  • Operational experience in an analyst or senior analyst role.
Desirable
  • Working knowledge in the use of R programming language in design and development of front-end analytics platforms.

Education

Essential
  • Degree level qualification or equivalent training and/or experience
Desirable
  • Relevant clinical background or demonstrable understanding of the clinical arena
  • MSc level qualification in an information management related field

Skills/knowledge/abilities

Essential
  • Able to identify areas for improvement and implement processes as appropriate
  • Understanding of providing excellent customer service
Desirable
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and human physiology.
