National cyber & telecoms testing environment

Were working with a major national telecoms and cyber security programme building a world-class research and testing facility to help secure the UKs communications networks and accelerate innovation in next-generation connectivity.

As part of this initiative, were hiring Penetration Testers who will identify vulnerabilities across the hardware, software, and platforms that power the UKs critical digital infrastructure. Youll test everything from 5G and core network components to virtualised environments and bespoke tooling, with the work you are doing directly strengthening national resilience.

This is not your typical pen-testing role. Youll operate at the intersection of offensive security, telecoms, and R&D, working alongside engineers and researchers to uncover complex vulnerabilities and improve the security of the UKs network ecosystem.

What Youll Be Doing

• Conduct hands-on security testing of modern IT and telecoms network components.
• Perform protocol fuzzing, positive/negative testing, and exploit development across complex network functions.
• Develop or script custom tooling for automated and repeatable testing.
• Analyse results, identify weaknesses, and deliver clear, high-impact technical reports.
• Collaborate with software engineers and vulnerability researchers to evolve testing techniques and methodologies.

What Were Looking For

Were hiring mid-level through to senior penetration testers who bring curiosity, depth, and hands-on skill.

Essential:

• Proven experience in penetration testing or security research (offensive or red-team work).
• Strong grasp of network or telecoms protocols (e.g. Diameter, SCTP, NGAP, SIP).
• Experience with fuzzing frameworks or test automation (e.g. AFL, Peach, boofuzz, Scapy, Burp extensions, etc.).
• Ability to produce clear, risk-based technical reporting.
• UK Security Clearance (SC) or eligibility to obtain it.

Desirable:

• Experience testing telecoms stacks (4G/5G Core, Open RAN, IMS).
• Scripting experience (Python, Go, Bash, or C/C++).
• CREST, OSCP, or similar certifications (would be desirable)
