Location: Birmingham (Hybrid 2 days per week)
Salary: £50,000 – £65,000 (depending on experience)
We’re supporting our client in building an advanced testing capability focused on the resilience and assurance of next-generation telecommunications networks. This is a rare opportunity to work on projects that directly contribute to national cyber security and the protection of critical national infrastructure.
The Role
You’ll join a collaborative team of Penetration Testers and Security Researchers working on some of the most technically complex and high-impact challenges in the industry.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Conducting detailed security testing and vulnerability assessments across telecoms and IT network components.
- Performing positive and negative testing, fuzzing, and protocol-level assessments on modern network functions.
- Researching and evaluating new and emerging network technologies to identify weaknesses before they reach production.
- Developing custom tooling, scripts, and automation to enhance and scale testing capabilities.
- Producing clear and high-quality technical reports that communicate risk, impact, and remediation recommendations.
- Working closely with security engineers, researchers, and developers to design and improve test methodologies.
This role plays a key part in supporting the design and development of secure telecoms infrastructure and contributes directly to national security outcomes.
About You
You’ll bring hands-on penetration testing experience across complex systems, ideally within telecoms, networking, or embedded environments. We’re interested in professionals who are curious, analytical, and thrive on technical problem-solving.
Key skills and experience:
- Strong understanding of modern IT or telecoms network architectures.
- Practical experience in testing protocols such as Diameter, SCTP, or NGAP (or the aptitude to learn).
- Experience in developing scripts, fuzzers, or automation for testing environments.
- Ability to deliver structured, detailed technical documentation and risk analysis.
- A collaborative mindset with a genuine interest in advancing cyber security research.
Additional Information
- Hybrid working is available, though the role requires regular presence at the Birmingham facility.
