Software Engineer

Software Engineer

Salary: circa £50k Location: Remote (UK-based with occasional team meetings)

The Opportunity: Engineering for National Security

Our client’s mission is to build and deliver secure, scalable collaboration solutions for the most security-conscious organisations in the UK. This is an environment where you can transform your individual talents into strengths within a creative, innovation-driven culture.

Why This Role is Different

This is not a place for rigid process followers. Our client actively embraces AI-augmented development, leveraging groundbreaking tools like Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and Cursor to amplify engineering capabilities. You will be encouraged to use these tools effectively while maintaining strong engineering fundamentals and critical thinking.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Design and Develop: Architect reliable and secure software systems using modern technologies like TypeScript, React, Next.js, Python, or Java.
  • Innovate with AI: Experiment with and evaluate new AI-powered development tools and practices, sharing those learnings with the wider team.
  • Collaborate Remotely: Engage with a distributed team through video, chat, and asynchronous documentation, valuing clarity and honesty in communication.
  • End-to-End Ownership: Take responsibility for software systems from initial conception and MVP through to live operation and decommissioning.

What We Are Looking For

  • Technical Breadth: Experience with cloud platforms (AWS or GCP preferred) and containerisation tools such as Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Security Mindset: A security-conscious approach with an understanding of secure coding practices and how decisions impact security posture.
  • Professional Standards: A well-formatted CV that demonstrates your attention to detail and a career history focused on the IT sector.
  • Clearance Requirements: You must hold a British passport. While previous SC or DV clearance is a significant advantage, we simply need you to be clearable.

Benefits and Culture

  • Flexible Working: A remote-first culture that has been distributed from the start, supporting different communication and collaboration preferences.
  • Continuous Learning: Dedicated time for experimentation, structured learning, and mentorship to help you master new approaches and technologies.
  • Inclusive Environment: A commitment to diverse thinking styles, offering reasonable accommodations throughout the application and employment process.
