Infrastructure Specialist

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an Infrastructure Specialist to join our Infrastructure Team.

We are looking for a team player who is able to work closely with colleagues within the Infrastructure Team, as well as with those we support and other key stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have experience of assisting users in a healthcare environment and of working with a wide range of stakeholders across the wider health and social care system.

Advanced IT skills, particularly with Lan / Wan and Server Technologies, will be essential, as well as excellent communication skills and the ability to undertake written work to a high standard.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work in the Infrastructure Team to deliver an integrated ICT support service within the agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

They must have the ability to demonstrate a logical approach to diagnosing and resolving technical faults on supported equipment throughout the organisation. The post holder will be a member of a team providing technical support to users of Innovates ICT services hardware and software.

The post holder will provide advanced technical support on core infrastructure technologies not limited to LAN, WAN, Firewall, Storage and Compute technologies. They will also provide a point of contact for delivering infrastructure projects for all stakeholders.

The post holder will be required to provide 24 x 7 on-call support on a rota basis for all ICT supported services and liaise with specialised support groups and 3rd parties on incident resolution.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Oversee the setup, configuration, and maintenance of physical and virtual servers.

Ensure servers are running at optimal performance, including troubleshooting and resolving issues.

Manage server operating systems and ensure they are up to date with patches and security updates.

Implement server hardening and security best practices to safeguard against vulnerabilities.

Oversee storage systems (SAN, NAS, and DAS) to ensure data availability and performance.

Monitor storage utilization and proactively manage capacity planning and growth.

Implement disaster recovery strategies and ensure data restoration procedures are efficient.

Manage and monitor core infrastructure components such as switches, routers, firewalls, and load balancers.

Ensure high availability and uptime for critical infrastructure services.

Participate in the design and implementation of scalable and reliable infrastructure solutions.

Ensure compliance with organisational security policies and industry best practices.

Continuously monitor the health and performance of servers, storage, and infrastructure.

Use monitoring tools to proactively detect issues and prevent downtime.

Analyse performance data and make recommendations for hardware or software improvements to optimize systems.

Collaborate with other IT teams to ensure smooth integration and operation of infrastructure.

Provide support to internal stakeholders or end-users for infrastructure-related queries or issues.

Document and report infrastructure performance, incidents, and improvements.

Assess infrastructure requirements and assist in capacity planning to support future growth.

Implement solutions that scale with organizational needs without compromising performance or availability.

Perform periodic audits of infrastructure resources and utilization to ensure alignment with business requirements.

Design and implement disaster recovery plans and backup strategies for servers and storage systems.

Regularly test and validate disaster recovery procedures.

Ensure high availability by configuring redundant systems and failover mechanisms.

Ensure infrastructure systems are secure and adhere to industry standards and organisational policies.

Perform regular security audits and address vulnerabilities as needed.

Ensure proper access control mechanisms are in place for all infrastructure components.

Maintain up-to-date documentation on infrastructure configuration, processes, and procedures.

Provide detailed reports on infrastructure health, performance, and any incidents or issues that occurred.

Undertake other duties to meet the changing needs and priorities of the Trust being supported, as determined by the Technical Services Manager and in accordance with the grade and nature of the post.

The post holder will be expected to take responsibility for their own professional development and will be supported to achieve development opportunities as appropriate.

The post holder will be available to travel between sites in Warwickshire as and when needed.

To provide 24 x 7 on-call support on a rota basis covering our sites in Warwickshire as and when needed.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential
  • Substantial proven experience in an ICT technical support environment.
  • Developed and demonstrable skills and knowledge in the following areas:
  • oNetwork Troubleshooting.
  • oLAN / WAN Technologies.
  • oStorage and Compute including Virtualization.
  • oFirewalls.
  • oHardware & Software installation Troubleshooting.
