Trade Surveillance Analyst

Insight Global are seeking a Trade Surveillance Analyst for a leading financial services organisation. This position requires 5 days onsite in London, UK for a 12-month contract (Inside IR35), with potential for extension.

The Trade Surveillance Analyst will play a key role in monitoring and investigating market surveillance alerts across a wide range of financial products. Working within a collaborative and fast-paced environment, you will analyse trading activity, identify potential market conduct concerns, and contribute to the ongoing enhancement of surveillance frameworks and processes. This role is ideal for someone who is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and motivated to drive continuous improvement within a regulatory and controls-focused function.

Must-Have Requirements Include:

  • Experience supporting trade surveillance activities, including managing market alerts and maintaining an alert investigation queue.
  • Strong knowledge of financial products, including equities, fixed income, derivatives, swaps, forwards, and bonds.
  • Demonstrated experience driving surveillance process improvements and contributing to change initiatives within cross-functional environments.
  • Strong analytical judgement with the ability to distinguish normal trading behaviour from potentially problematic activity.
  • Advanced SQL skills and the ability to analyse large datasets to support investigations and decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-volume, fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.

Plusses Include:

  • Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Business, or a related field.
  • Previous experience within a Big Four consulting firm, hedge fund, investment bank, or similar financial institution.
  • Experience enhancing surveillance models, controls, or monitoring frameworks.
  • Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and adaptability in evolving environments.
  • Naturally curious mindset with a proactive approach to identifying issues and recommending solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and investigate a high volume of daily market surveillance alerts generated through dedicated monitoring platforms.
  • Manage and prioritise an individual alert queue while ensuring timely and thorough investigations.
  • Analyse market data and trading activity across multiple asset classes to identify unusual patterns, trends, or behaviours.
  • Escalate potential concerns and document findings in accordance with internal policies and regulatory expectations.
  • Partner with compliance, risk, technology, and business stakeholders to support surveillance initiatives and investigations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve surveillance models and alert effectiveness.
  • Contribute to quality assurance processes to ensure critical risks and signals are appropriately monitored and addressed.
  • Support a collaborative team environment and assist with broader surveillance and regulatory initiatives as needed.
