Automation Technical Lead

Manchester / Hybrid - 3 days a week in office

(£80k–£85k) + benefits + Bonus

Our client is expanding its automation capability and we’re looking for a highly skilled Automation Technical Lead to drive the delivery of automation solutions across the business. This role is ideal for someone who is still hands‐on with automation tooling but also capable of coordinating and leading a small team of near‐shore automation developers.

You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping how automation is delivered, ensuring high‐quality workflows, strong engineering practices, and smooth collaboration across teams. This is a great opportunity for a senior automation engineer or RPA specialist who wants to step into a leadership role with real influence and visibility.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Designing, building, and maintaining automation workflows using Power Automate and other automation platforms.
  • Leading and coordinating a small near‐shore scrum team of automation developers.
  • Acting as the point of contact for work allocation, sprint planning, and delivery oversight.
  • Working closely with product, data, and engineering teams to prioritise and deliver automation initiatives.
  • Ensuring automation solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with best practice.
  • Supporting the evolution of automation capability across the organisation, including low‐code governance and integration with core systems.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • Strong hands‐on experience with Power Automate and at least one other automation/RPA platform.
  • Ability to run a small scrum team — planning, coordinating, and ensuring delivery.
  • Experience working with near‐shore/off‐shore development teams.
  • Solid understanding of automation best practices, workflow design, and integration patterns.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with senior stakeholders.
  • Comfortable operating autonomously and taking ownership of delivery.

Desirable

  • Exposure to Azure services, Logic Apps, or cloud‐native automation tooling.
  • Experience with data engineering or analytics environments.
  • Interest in growing into a broader leadership role over time.

What’s in It for You

  • Competitive salary with room for progression as responsibilities grow.
  • Opportunity to shape the automation function from the ground up.
  • A role with genuine influence and visibility across the business.
  • A supportive environment that encourages innovation and continuous improvement.

If you’re a hands‐on automation expert ready to step into a leadership role, or a technical lead who still enjoys building, we’d love to hear from you.
