Security Engineer

Work on technology that directly supports Defence and National Security. We are looking for experienced Security Engineers to help design, operate and improve secure digital solutions supporting UK Defence and National Security missions. Hands-on role focused on privileged access management, identity security, credential lifecycle management and operational security. You will work across highly secure environments where reliability, resilience and strong security controls are essential. Permanent role, salary up to £85,000 plus benefits with flexible, hybrid working from Farnborough.

About the role

You will work alongside security architects, infrastructure engineers, platform specialists and delivery teams to protect critical systems and support faster, safer operational decision-making.

The role covers the management of privileged accounts, credentials and secrets, alongside vulnerability management, access governance, security monitoring, audit and technical troubleshooting. It would suit a strong cyber security engineer who enjoys working at a detailed technical level and may be looking to progress towards security architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Manage privileged credentials, including passwords, SSH keys and API keys.
  • Configure and monitor automated credential rotation to prevent service disruption.
  • Run discovery scans to identify privileged accounts, service accounts and system dependencies.
  • Manage access controls, user roles, permissions and privileged session monitoring.
  • Monitor vulnerabilities, apply security patches and maintain platform security.
  • Review audit logs and correlate alerts with SIEM data to investigate suspicious activity.
  • Troubleshoot security issues involving firewalls, load balancers, identity systems and credential-management tools.

Essential criteria

  • Experience deploying and managing security tooling, including vulnerability scanning or EDR technologies
  • Experience with identity solutions, directory services, identity providers or Privileged Access Management platforms
  • Good understanding of privileged account, credential and secrets management
  • Experience working at technical low-level design
  • Knowledge of Agile, DevSecOps and CI/CD principles within secure environments
  • Strong written reporting and technical documentation skills
  • Understanding of threat frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK

Desirable criteria

  • Experience working within Defence, National Security or protectively marked environments
  • Experience with Active Directory, Windows Services, Scheduled Tasks and IIS
  • SIEM monitoring and security investigation experience
  • Knowledge of RBAC, session monitoring and privileged session recording
  • Experience with firewalls, load balancers and network security controls
  • Knowledge of database backup, recovery and resilience processes

  • Be able to commute to Farnborough 3 days / week
  • Have a sole UK nationality
  • Have SC or a higher level of Security Clearance e.g DV
